Awards are given in the memory of and for the contribution of Prof. A. R. Rao in the field of Cancer Chemoprevention Research.

Professor A. Ramesha Rao joined Jawaharlal Nehru University in 1976. He did pioneering work in Cancer Research at the School of Life Sciences and emphasized chemoprevention as a core strategy for cancer control and management.
